It has always been valuable as a quick way to test the "reachability" factor of a particular database. I've been a fan of tnsping for some time. Not only is not included, you can't download a version that is compatible with InstantClient. Well, anyone that has tried to use tnsping with Oracle's InstantClient ( ) was in for a big nasty surprise.
